Betty grew up near Coalgate on a ranch raising show calves and winning at the state level until she graduated.  She has Bachelor and Master's degrees in journalism from the University of Oklahoma.  In her career she worked with several nonprofits for 20 years writing grants and teaching development goals and skills to their boards.  She retired from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 2006.  Betty now serves on the boards of the Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation, the Jasmine Moran Chilcren's Museum, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Foundation and the Children's Hospital Foundation.
